xx Seeking L.W. Loomis or Eric Thompson family
« Thread started on: Jan 5th, 2009, 12:08pm »

Hi Fellow History Buffs - Over the past year, I've been working on a short book regarding the history of the High Bridge Glens and Caves park that operated in Cuyahoga Falls in the late 1800s.

As a final step in my research (after many trips to the historical society museum, local libraries and archives), I am trying to locate any possible descendants in the family of L.W. Loomis (the park's founder, as well as manager of Loomis Hardware on Front Street).

Mr. Loomis passed away in 1906, but had several children who may, in turn, have had grandchildren who are still living in or around Cuyahoga Falls. And perhaps - here's the long shot - they have photos of L.W. or the park in their family albums that they might be willing to share copies of.

As I stated, this is probably a real long shot, but I figured with all the marvelous connections that the posters on this board have, someone might know if any Loomis descendants are still living around the Falls and how I might contact them. (Am also always looking for any information at all regarding the Glens.)

L.W.'s children included Lillian M. Loomis (born March 1865), Byron H. Loomis (born Sept. 1868) and Irving I. Loomis (born Aug. 1871.)

The second group of individuals I am trying to track down is more recent - and includes the family of late local Falls historian Eric J. Thompson. It was Mr. Thompson who actually got me interested in the Glens in the 1980s.

When I was a college feature writing student, Mr. Thompson patiently shared with me his knowledge of the Glens. He also showed me his collection of Glens stereoviews, which - if I had had any foresight at all - I would have made copies of at the time.

I am trying to see if Eric's widow or family are still in the area and if they still have those stereoviews for photocopying. I've checked the Falls phone book but didn't see any listings for Eric's family. If anyone has any contact with the Loomis or Eric Thompson families, I hope you'll share them with me, as they would be a great help with my book - and a marvelous addition to the admirable archives of the Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society museum.

I can be reached via this forum or at HighBridgeGlens@aol.com

Thanks for your patience in indulging this ol' Glens researcher. Artifacts regarding the Glens are getting scarcer and scarcer, and I am afraid if we don't capture the history of the Glens in book form it one day may be lost in the mists of time.

Happy New Year!
