xx House Histories
« Thread started on: Mar 22nd, 2006, 2:16pm »

I've recently been getting around 5-6 emails a week for the past month from people wanting to know how to go about researching information on their family homes or the houses they live in currently.

The Akron-Summit County Library has put out info on how to go about doing the best research.
Its labeled House Histories on http://ascpl.lib.oh.us/internetresources/sc/pathfinders/guides.html

The direct link to this pdf file is:
http://ascpl.lib.oh.us/internetresources/sc/pathfinders/househistories.pdf

Good Luck!

jeri: i've got a question one of the old-timers might know the answer to. on chestnut blvd. opposite olive pl. there's a church of christ that was built in the early 60's. before that there was a big beautiful house/carriage house/grounds that occupied the entire center of the block (this is between 8th and 9th streets between chestnut and sackett ave). the carriage house is still there- it can be seen from sackett- and likely had been sub-divided when the church was built. if you've ever been to that church you know that it is a huge place. who built/lived in that place? was olive place the original driveway to this once-grand estate? does anyone have any pictures of this house? they tore that place down before us kids could get in there and snoop around. how da ya like that? ^) rc

I have a friend that told me about that same thing - I of course don't recall the stories he told me but I'll have him jump on and put his two cents in.

Hi. Do you know if my old house is still there? It is a big gray house on Hollawy ct. I was born there in that house in 1932. It sat atop of the hill on the right side going down the hill. Thank you if you know anything.

Hi Almorranas, I went to Google Maps and found no listing for Hollaway Ct, but they do show a Holloway Ct. Google's map service provider may have got the spelling wrong, as they sometimes do.

If this is the street you remember, Holloway Ct is viewable on their Streetview presentation, complete with a street-level photo of what's left of Holloway Ct., but it shows no houses. Go to Google, click on Maps, type in the street name and city/state, then look for a small picture with the name Streetview. You can enlarge the image by using their icons.

This may not be the exact location you were looking for, but it's all that came up; it's a short East/West road between and about parallel with Broad and Portage Tr., and East of 2nd Street.

Can you access Google Maps? Can you get to Streetview? If you need help, send me a Private Message from your Account on this Forum, and I'll try to assist.

Take care,

Hi again. I am sorry, I made a mistake on typing. It is Holloway. My typing is not so good. If it wasn't for my ranch forman I could not be here. He is able to use these things very easy so I rely on him. I saw a message from Susann telling me the house is nothing there. It was such a long time back that we lived there I had a feeling not much what I remember is still in Cuy Falls. Times were difficult back in them days. After we moved we did it too many times. I finally left school in the eigth grade cause I was of driving age. I want to find some one that might remember my mom and pop. May be no one is around that could remember back that far. It's not such happy stuff I don't think you would want to hear it. Any way I thank you and Susann for looking for things for me. Thank you both and by.
